Past Projects, Business Ventures and Successes

From 2004-2007 I owned and published The Northeast Harbor Port Directory & The Southwest Harbor Port Directory. These were two 64-page, full color annual tourist magazines that covered the beautiful island of Mount Desert, Maine, and had a combined distribution of 50,000 copies per year. I handled all advertising sales, design, layout, and distribution.

If you are looking for a pristine place to vacation, Mount Desert Island offers something for everyone of all ages. I sold my websites with the magazines, but they are still up and running and contain most of my original content. There is also a place where you can request a copy of the latest books. The new owner will be happy to mail them to you. Just go to www.visitnortheastharbor.com or www.visitsouthwestharbor.com.

LC_cover_credits Every year, the Lion’s Club of MDI, raises money by publishing an Information Booklet for the Annual Acadia Triathlon. In 2005, I was honored to be hired to design, layout and publish this booklet. This was a really fun project and probably the most satisfying part for me was I was able to save them a considerable amount on printing costs over the prior year by using the same printer who did the Port Directories for me.

A major draw to this event, and a personal favorite, is the Annual Octoberfest & Food Festival. Brewers from all over the state, international food booths, crafts from Maine artisans, and live music and entertainment round out the festival. You can find out when the next one is taking place by visiting www.acadiachamber.com.

ATF_03-edition Back in 2002, I purchased a little daily fax newsletter from a friend called “All The Fax”. Basically, it was a one-page sheet faxed to area businesses, full of tips, trivia, quotes etc., and the entire center section was sold to one advertiser per day. We began with just one version in our local market, then expanded it down in to southern Maine and published a different daily version for the larger metro areas around Portland. All The Fax definitely had it’s own niche at the time, until document distribution and communication via email became more and more prevalent.
